On May 12 the final of 2018-2019 Chinese Three-Man Basketball Challenge Match and “I Compete for Olympic Games” Tryout ended. During the 2-day competition the Men’s Basketball Team of High School Attached to Shandong Normal University (AHS) won the youth-group championship and AHS Women’s Basketball Team ranked the 4th in the women’s youth group. Three players of AHS Men’s Basketball Team were selected into the national three-man basketball training team and would participate in some international matches including the matches for preparing for Tokyo Olympic Games.
Hosted by Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), Chinese Three-Man Basketball Challenge Match is of the highest level among those annual three-man basketball matches. The first stage of the final was divided into four categories, with 48 teams from 14 provinces or cities in the six divisions throughout China attending the matches, each being the championship in their respective divisions. In April AHS Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball Team won the championships of North-China division and got the qualification to attended the first stage of the final.
In the final stages AHS Men’s Basketball Team beat in succession Hubei Youth Team, Ningbo Sports School Team, Chongqing No. 42 Middle School Team and Yunnan Qihang Youth Training School Team and met the seed team Guangdong Shark Team in the final, in which they stood no fear of the strong competitor and finally won the championship by a margin of 1 point. The four players were granted the certificate of National Level-1 Athlete with an award of RMB 60,000 and selected into the national training team, trained for international matches including 2020 Olympic Games.
On the afternoon of May 13 AHS held the press conference, players with high prizes chatting about their championship-winning process as well as their growth. Present at the conference were Wang Yuzhang, AHS Principal, Liu Congjun, AHS Deputy Principal, Yang Ping, Director of AHS Department of Publicity, Wang Xigang, Director of AHS Department of Sports, Health and Arts, Qu Guoyong, Director of AHS Department of Arts and Sports Teaching and Research, Zou Hucheng, Coach of AHS Men’s Basketball Team, Cheng Xin, Coach of AHS Women’s Basketball Team and Shi Yu, a parent representative.
AHS is a nation-level traditional sports program school with basketball as its strength, the first nation-level school with campus basketball as its special characteristics, and Shandong provincial school special in basketball. AS a traditional power, AHS Men’s Basketball Team and Women’s Basketball Team have won plenty of national or provincial championships and nurtured a considerable number of outstanding basketball talents, who have been admitted into universities or professional teams.
